Getting started
How does the weekly allowance work?
Each child starts the week with their allowance. Rewards add to it and deductions take away. When payday ends, a new week starts at the full allowance, and the finished week waits under Ready to Pay until you mark it paid. You can also choose New Week Starts › When I Pay Out to end each week yourself.
What's the difference between money and points?
Money children earn a weekly allowance in dollars. Points children fill a jar toward a reward you name, like a trip for ice cream. Change it any time under a child's Edit › Earns.
Why didn't the jar empty when my child reached the goal?
Reaching the goal is celebrated, but points can still be lost until the week ends. If your child is still at the goal when the week ends, the reward is earned and waits under Ready to Redeem. If you chose Jar Ends › When I Redeem, tap Redeem once you've given the reward.
How do savings goals work?
On a money child's page, tap Set a Savings Goal and enter what they're saving for and what it costs. Tap Add to Savings whenever they put money aside. When the goal is reached, tap Mark as Bought.
Can I change the quick reasons?
Yes. Go to Settings › Quick Reasons to add, edit, reorder, or delete them. You can also type a new reason when you reward or deduct and save it for next time.
Widgets and Siri
How do I add a HabitLoot widget?
Touch and hold an empty spot on your Home Screen, tap Edit › Add Widget, and choose HabitLoot. Balance shows one child; press and hold it, then tap Edit Widget to choose who. All Kids shows everyone, and its large size adds each jar and savings goal.
Can I reward or deduct from the widget?
Yes. The medium Balance widget has buttons for your first two rewards and first two deductions in Settings › Quick Reasons; reorder them there to choose which appear. After a tap, Undo shows on the widget for a few minutes.
How do I use Siri?
Say "Reward [child's name] in HabitLoot", "Deduct from [child's name] in HabitLoot", or "Check [child's name]'s balance in HabitLoot". Siri asks which quick reason to use. The same actions are in the Shortcuts app, so you can build your own.
Can my kids use the widget buttons to reward themselves?
Not if you turn on Settings › Require Face ID. While it's on, the widget shows this week's changes instead of buttons, and Siri can't change balances either. On a child's own device, the widget only ever shows their balance.
Family
How do I share with the other parent?
Go to Settings › Family › Invite the Other Parent and send the invite by Messages or Mail. When they open it on their iPhone with HabitLoot installed, you'll both be able to reward, deduct, and pay out. Both of you need to be signed in to iCloud.
Can my child see their balance?
Yes. Open the child's page, tap the share button next to Edit, and send the invite to the Apple Account your child uses. They'll see only their own balance, savings goal, and history, and they can't change anything.
How do I remove someone's access?
Go to Settings › Family › Manage Access to remove the other parent, or open a child's page and use the share button to stop sharing with them.
Does the other parent need to buy HabitLoot Family?
No. Someone who joins your family uses your purchase. With Apple Family Sharing turned on, everyone in your Apple family gets it too.
Your data
I got a new iPhone. Where's my family?
Sign in to the same iCloud account and install HabitLoot. Your family comes back on its own shortly after you open HabitLoot. Check that iCloud is turned on for HabitLoot in Settings › [your name] › iCloud.
Is my family's information private?
Yes. HabitLoot doesn't collect any data. Everything stays on your devices and in your own iCloud account. See the Privacy Policy.
How do I stop kids from changing their own balance?
Turn on Settings › Require Face ID. HabitLoot will ask for Face ID or your passcode every time it opens, and widget buttons and Siri won't change balances while it's on.
Purchases
What's free, and what's HabitLoot Family?
Free covers one child, with money or points, savings goals, and reminders. HabitLoot Family is a one-time purchase that adds more children and family sharing. There's no subscription.
How do I restore my purchase?
Go to Settings › Restore Purchase, signed in with the Apple Account you bought it with.
How do I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com and choose HabitLoot.
